How Health Coaching Tackles the Taboo and the Unseen

Before we can make meaningful changes in our lives, we first need to identify and accept that there are things in need of changing. Some things are more normalized — like reducing stress in our lives, losing weight, or getting better sleep. But these aren’t the only challenges YourCoach health coaches help clients tackle. In fact, these often aren’t even the most common issues our coaches address.

Often, what clients are looking to work on isn’t what’s being talked about on social media or with friends. These are the hidden struggles: the quiet, internal battles with self-worth, the emotional weight of perfectionism, the identity crisis after a major life change, or the deep discomfort that comes from living out of alignment with one’s values. These are the questions that keep us awake at night, the behaviors we don’t fully understand, and the feelings we’ve learned to bury just to keep going.

This is where YourCoach health coaching becomes truly transformational. In today’s blog, we explore some of the ways YourCoach health coaches help clients address what are sometimes viewed as “taboo” health and wellbeing concerns.

YourCoach health coaches help you identify opportunities for change without shame.

Making changes is hard, especially when we’re not always comfortable admitting what’s truly going on. It can feel easier to focus on goals that are more common or more openly discussed, like eating better or exercising more. These are very valid goals and are of course, things our health coaches work on with their clients. But often, the most lasting transformation begins only when we acknowledge the parts of ourselves we’ve been avoiding.

YourCoach health coaches create a safe environment where clients feel comfortable to share the things they really feel they need to work on for their holistic health and wellbeing. For example, one of our coaches was partnered with a young man who, after several sessions, discussed how his pornography habit was increasingly becoming a compulsion. It was affecting his self-esteem, his focus, and his ability to be present in relationships. But he’d never told anyone, out of fear of being labeled or misunderstood.

When he started working with his health coach, it was the first time he felt truly heard. He was able to explore all the ways his habit was impacting his health and wellbeing and discuss opportunities to create healthier changes to curb this behavior without shame or judgment. Together, they worked to understand the underlying triggers — stress, loneliness, occasionally boredom — and co-created strategies that supported his values and goals. This included setting boundaries around screen time, incorporating stress-reducing habits like movement and mindfulness, and building new routines that helped him reconnect with his sense of self-worth. The guilt no longer kept him from being his best self both at work and home and he finally became eligible for the promotion that has been his goal for the last 2 years.

What made the process powerful wasn’t just the behavioral change, it was the space to talk openly about something he’d hidden for years. For the first time, he wasn’t carrying it alone. And for the first time, he was creating an action plan with measurable and meaningful results.

YourCoach health coaches help you create sustainable change, even when it feels like you’re starting over.

Topics like sobriety often carry social weight and internal judgment. But for many people, getting sober isn’t just about quitting a substance, it’s about rebuilding an identity, a routine, and a life without it. Our health coaches understand this process and many even specialize in helping clients understand their own journey to sobriety and how to pave a path with lasting results. They know that sobriety isn’t a single decision, but rather, a series of ongoing, daily choices that require support, reflection, and patience.

Recently, one of our health coaches began working with a client who’d been sober for a year but still felt overwhelmed, disconnected and unsure of who she was without alcohol. Social situations felt awkward, her evenings felt empty, and she was struggling to rebuild her habits and identity in sobriety. When she started working with a YourCoach health coach, she was finally able to acknowledge these feelings and further, explore how to redefine her life and identity. Her coach helped her identify her values, explore new ways to connect with joy and purpose, and build daily routines that gave her a sense of structure and self-respect. Together, they created a version of life that felt full, balanced, and truly hers. She started showing up better for work, for her responsibilities and her team.

Health coaches don’t replace therapists or recovery sponsors, but they fill a vital gap in between that offers consistent, proactive support to help people move forward with intention. This often encompasses creating and sustaining new habits that make behavior change more possible and that help us tap into holistically healthier versions of ourselves.

YourCoach health coaches help you navigate inner conflict to achieve holistic growth.

Sometimes, what’s expected of us is really, really hard — even harder than we may have anticipated. That’s okay. Our health coaches see that without judgment. They help us understand and forgive ourselves for these deep, conflicting feelings. This disconnect can create deep inner conflict, guilt, or regret, making it hard to move forward or find peace. Health coaches provide a compassionate space to explore these difficult emotions honestly and without judgment, helping clients understand their feelings and identify what they truly need to feel whole and fulfilled.

For example, a new mom began working with a YourCoach health coach to explore the guilt she felt for struggling emotionally after childbirth. Through coaching, she was able to separate societal expectations from her personal experience, build supportive routines for self-care, and develop confidence in her unique parenting journey. This support helped her move from isolation to empowerment, fostering a healthier mindset for both herself and her family. It helped her manage her work routine with her new home routine and begin to establish the elusive work-life balance.

Again, health coaches don’t replace medical care or therapy, but they fill an important role by offering ongoing, personalized support that meets moms where they are and helps them reclaim a sense of balance, strength, and hope during a challenging season of life.

Our health coaches provide a safe and compassionate space to foster meaningful change. They help clients address opportunities for change, even when it’s hard to talk about so that they can make an impact that lasts.
