Pre-Coaching Concerns:

Jennifer is preparing to begin hormone replacement therapy (HRT), a step they’ve anticipated for a significant period. However, their anxiety has intensified in recent months, leading to moments of self-doubt. Social interactions post-transition are a major concern for Jennifer. They anticipate navigating unfamiliar social dynamics and potential encounters with misgendering or discrimination. These anxieties further complicate an already emotionally challenging process.

The Coaching Experience:

The initial coaching sessions (1-2) focused on establishing a foundation for Jennifer’s well-being. This involved:

  • Vision Building:

    Creating a vision for their overall health and happiness during transition

  • Strengths Identification:

    Identifying Jennifer’s strengths and values to build self-confidence

  • Mindfulness & Stress Management:

    Equipping Jennifer with practical tools like guided meditation and breathing exercises to manage anxiety and improve emotional regulation

 

Jennifer’s experience:

“Before coaching, my anxiety sometimes felt overwhelming. The meditation and breathing exercises helped me center myself and manage those intense moments. It was a game-changer.”

As Jennifer’s confidence grew and their anxiety became more manageable, they were able to identify some negative thought patterns they wanted to improve. Session 3 focused on cognitive reframing to help support their goals.

  • Cognitive Reframing:

    Sessions addressed negative thought patterns through journaling prompts and open discussions.The goal was to replace self-doubt with positive affirmations and realistic expectations, fostering self-compassion

Jennifer’s reflection:

“I used to get stuck in negative thought patterns. My coach helped equip me with tools to identify those and replace them with more positive self-talk.”

With increased confidence, session 4 focused on Jennifer began building a strong support network:

  • Identifying Allies:

    Working with their coach, Jennifer identified trusted friends, family members, and LGBTQIA+ community resources

  • Building Connections:

    Having this network provided a sense of belonging and support during the transition process

Jennifer’s perspective:

“I wasn’t sure how to reach out for support during this time. My coach helped me identify the right people and build a strong support system.”

As Jennifer explored these new support systems, they worked with their coach on developing stronger social skills:
