Global Employee Wellness Month: Stories of Impact Through REAL Health Coaching

Behind every title on a company org chart is someone with goals, with a family, with a whole life and sense of self outside of work. There’s someone facing life’s challenges and someone who might be struggling with their physical or mental health and wellbeing. This May, for Global Employee Wellness Month, we’re inviting every employer to look beyond roles and responsibilities and recognize employees as whole human beings.

Following last week’s blog, we’re shining a light on the people behind the data, unpacking the ways health coaches can intervene to provide meaningful results for employees in and out of work. Whether someone is managing invisible stressors, navigating role transitions, or simply trying to stay afloat amid competing demands, YourCoach health coaches provide personalized support that meets individuals exactly where they are.

Fact: 42% of participants reported limited social support networks, increasing susceptibility to stress and disengagement.

Meet Amina. She’s a UX designer at a fast-growing startup. She hits her deadlines, gives thoughtful feedback in meetings, and always keeps her camera on during team calls with a smile. She’s efficient, adaptable, and her teams see her as a “quiet rock.” But what they don’t see is that Amina eats most of her meals alone. Since moving to a new city for this job, she doesn’t know many people outside of Slack messages and project briefs. She’s not unhappy, she’s just, disconnected. And lately, it’s a lot harder for her to stay motivated at work.

Amina isn’t unlike other colleagues. According to our YourCoach Observational Outcomes Study, 42% of participants reported this sense of disconnection. REAL health coaches can help bridge that gap. In fact, the same Observational Outcomes Study showed an 11.7% increase in participants’ SOC scores, indicating stronger motivation and commitment towards behavior change when working with a health coach. When Amina started working with a health coach through her company’s wellness benefits, her health coach was more than just a sounding board. Together, they worked on building small, intentional social routines and strategies to feel more engaged in her daily life—even from behind a screen. With a combination of empathy, accountability, and practical tools, Amina slowly began to feel more grounded, supported, and seen. Not only that, but she began working on sustainable habits, like taking regular breaks, creating boundaries around her workday, and carving out time for activities that made her feel connected and calm.

For the first time in a while, Amina started tending to her mental health in a way that felt manageable and meaningful. She realized that feeling disconnected wasn’t just about being alone. It was about not feeling like herself. Through coaching, she was able to recognize what she needed, take action, and begin showing up more fully in her work and life

Fact: 30% of participants noted they are facing challenges related to career transitions, role ambiguity, or uncertain job security.

Meet Daniel. After nearly a decade at the company, Daniel was promoted to a management role during a major organizational change (and a period of significant economic uncertainty). What should’ve felt like a career milestone quickly transformed into crippling anxiety, overtaking his work and home life. Daniel showed up to every meeting with professionalism, but internally he felt lost and crushed by imposter syndrome. His mental health – and his ability to lead his team – really started to suffer as a result.

Daniel’s company had recently begun offering REAL health coaching through YourCoach and at first, he wasn’t sure what to expect. But in those coaching sessions, he found something he hadn’t had in a long time: clarity and confidence. His coach helped him untangle the mental clutter, name the stressors he’d been avoiding, and unpack the daily habits he could implement to address mental hurdles, stress and anxiety he’d been experiencing as a result of his new role. Through health coaching, Daniel realized that feeling unsure didn’t mean he wasn’t capable—it meant he was adapting, and that was something worth supporting, not hiding.

In fact, according to the YourCoach Observational Outcomes Study, participants experienced a  9.6% increase in self-efficacy and a belief they could handle tough challenges and follow through with their goals when working with a health coach. For Daniel and so many others, REAL health coaching became the turning point, helping him shift from self-doubt to self-leadership, not just improving his performance at work, but supporting his overall mental wellbeing in the process.

Fact: 28% of participants reported chronic stress-related symptoms, including sleep issues, anxiety, and physical fatigue affecting performance.

Meet Priya. She’s a senior account executive at a growing agency, known for her incredible balance of endless creativity and unwavering positivity. She’s always had a knack for balancing competing client priorities even during the busiest of times. But lately, something’s been a little off. She feels like she’s fighting an endless to-do list that’s creeping into her sleep schedule and making it hard to unwind. What her colleagues see is someone “handling it all.” What they don’t see is that Priya hasn’t felt like herself in months.

In her first session with a health coach, Priya was surprised it didn’t start with productivity tips and end with a canned flyer on organization. Instead her health coach asked a series of guided, open-ended inquiries that helped Priya recognize her mounting stress at work and define actionable steps to manage it. Over time, Priya started waking up feeling rested, not wired. Her focus returned, her energy lifted, and she no longer felt like she was white-knuckling her way through the week. Health coaching helped Priya shift from survival mode into a state of sustainable, supported wellbeing—one session at a time.

FAQ:

What role does YourCoach play in supporting mental health?

At YourCoach, we offer REAL, ROI-driven health coaching through the largest validated cohort of verified health and wellbeing coaches. If you’re an organization that’s interested in learning more about how we can provide mental health and sustainable behavior change support for your employees, clients, patients and/or members, send us a note to team@yourcoach.health.

In what ways do health coaches personalize their approach to mental wellbeing?

No two people experience stress or anxiety the same way. Health coaches recognize this and take a personalized approach, getting to know the person behind the data. They ask thoughtful questions that reveal patterns, struggles, and strengths others might miss. By understanding a client’s unique context—like lifestyle, values, and mindset—coaches help co-create realistic, personalized strategies that promote sustainable mental wellbeing.

Does health coaching result in statistically significant mental health outcomes?

Absolutely! Real-world data shows that working with a health coach leads to measurable improvements in mental health. For example, clients in the YourCoach Observational Outcomes Study saw a 17.9% decrease in anxiety scores (GAD-7), a 10.8% increase in stress recovery (RAQ-8), and over 61% of participant showed improved perceived control over life outcomes.
