3 Signs You Need a Health Coach

We won’t bury the lede here—every human needs and deserves to have access to a health coach. But there are some signs that you’re beyond overdue for a health coaching intervention. If you’re feeling unmotivated, uninspired, stressed, and are having trouble implementing habits that stick around longer than just a few weeks, this blog is absolutely for you. 

Today, we’re challenging readers to take a close look at where they are physically, mentally and emotionally. If any of the below descriptions categorizes your current state, it’s absolutely a priority you begin working with a health coach (and you’re in luck—because it’s never too late to take proactive steps to become a healthier, happier version of YOU with the guidance of a health coach – and yes, we’ve got those!).

  1. You’re feeling unmotivated and lacking accountability. 

    One of the easiest ways to identify you’re overdue for engaging a health and wellness coach is a persistent feeling of being stuck, particularly lacking the drive to change habits you know are no longer serving you. For example, you might recognize you’re no longer fueling your body with healthy, energy-rich foods and instead are reaching for quick snacks that lack nutrients. You know you’re not making choices that make your body feel and operate at its best, but you don’t have the motivation to change these habits. Relatedly, you don’t feel accountable for making positive changes—which can be a serious hindrance to feeling motivated and making change.
    Lucky for you, health coaches help with both of these things. They work closely with you to set realistic and meaningful goals and identify the ways they can tap into extrinsic and intrinsic motivators to generate more success. They foster a growth mindset and help you overcome roadblocks along the way that might threaten to keep you stuck in old ways.   2. You’re having difficulty managing day-to-day stress or burnout.

    If you spend your days feeling overwhelmed by unmanageable stress and end your days feeling physically and emotionally exhausted, it’s absolutely time to engage a health coach (and employers, this is the number one concern we hear from employees we work with nationwide). Mismanaged stress and burnout can begin to have serious health and wellbeing implications, which in turn can be early symptoms of burnout—affecting everything from sleep, to nutritional choices, mood, memory and more. Not only does mounting stress and burnout affect the way you operate at work, but also relationships outside of work, your overall happiness and sense of self efficacy and so much more. 

    Health coaches can spot burnout and mismanaged stress very early and bring in the right coping strategies to keep both at bay. For example, they might help you identify relaxation strategies that work uniquely well for you and can be as simple as taking a bath or more nuanced like mindfulness and meditation practices. They can help you identify potential triggers and threats—like unexpected schedule changes and poor time management—and help you figure out how to cut those down or out of your life completely. Moreover, they can work closely with you to implement daily routines that prioritize healthy habits, making sure you get the sleep you need, eat right, exercise, take breaks and pursue activities outside of work that fill your cup. .   

  3. You can’t get healthy habits to stick.
