Title: Director of Sales
Reports to: COO
Comp: $Market + OTE variable + equity
Best for: an operator who built a sales team from 1 to 3-5 reps at a Series A/B healthtech, just
exited or wants to leave for next chapter. Wants to own a function rather than fit inside one.
What you’d own:
You are the first dedicated commercial hire after the founders. For the first 6-9 months you are a
player-coach: closing your own deals AND building the playbook AND making the first AE hire
when revenue justifies it. After month 9, the team scales under you.
In your first 90 days:
- Inherit roughly 20-30 active opportunities across multiple buyer segments and build a forecast against them
- Codify the sales motion that the founders have been running (call patterns, qualification steps, pricing conversations, MOU sequencing, close mechanics)
- Identify which 2 of our buyer segments deserve disproportionate investment and which 2 we should put into maintenance mode
- Run the weekly pipeline ritual with the founders
In months 4-9:
- Hire your first AE (we'll fund the second hire on revenue trigger)
- Build the qualification framework that lets a new AE be productive in 60 days
- Own the path from inbound to signed agreement end-to-end
- Sit on the executive team alongside the founders
Who you are:
- 7-12 years in B2B sales, with at least one full cycle of building a sales motion at a $3- 10M ARR healthcare or healthtech company
- You have closed deals in at least two of: employer benefits, health system, health plan, DTC consumer, DTx/digital health, EAPs, wellness platforms
- You can write your own outreach, run your own discovery, hand-build a pricing proposal, and walk a CFO through a 24-month ROI model without a deck team
- You have hired and managed 1-3 AEs before
- You think in motion + system terms ("here's the repeatable pattern, here's where it leaks") not in heroics
Who you are NOT:
- A VP at a $50M+ ARR company stepping down
- An SDR-leader-turned-VP who has never closed enterprise
- A consultant or advisor who has never carried a number
- Anyone who needs to bring a fully-staffed team to be productive
